Old Crossleyans RUFC
Wetherby 39 – 8 Old Crossleyans 1XV
After a forced week off, Old Crossleyans suffered a heavy and comprehensive defeat at Grange Park, a venue they last visited during the 2017/18 Yorkshire Two season.
Fifteen of Wetherby’s eighteen players selected for the match had come through the club’s junior ranks, and they also fielded a second XV on the adjacent pitch.
The match itself was a reflection of the Crocs' season so far. Crocs took the lead within the first 10 minutes thanks to a James Johnson penalty. The visitors enjoyed the majority of possession in the early stages, much of which was spent in Wetherby’s 22-metre zone, but they were unable to breach the home side's strong defensive line.
By halftime, Wetherby had scored four tries, primarily through clean breaks, to lead 24-3. As the game wore on, Wetherby grew increasingly confident with ball in hand, adding two more unconverted tries by the 60-minute mark.
Alex Thompson scored Crocs’ only try of the day, racing over out wide just minutes before the final whistle.
A disappointing result for the Crocs, who now must knuckle down in training as they strive to remain in level six rugby next season.
